There are a few things that come to mind whenever my thoughts drift towards New York.
– Seinfeld
– Shake Shack
– How much I love travelling alone.
The last extended vacation I took was a two week long journey to New York which I chronicled earlier in the year. It was the best trip of my life because I had the utmost freedom. We’ve all been on holidays where we feel obliged to go somewhere we don’t really want to go to or eat somewhere you don’t really want to eat.
The trip to New York was about my favourite person in the world. That person being me. I’d start my day with a bagel, a can of Red Bull and an absolute disregard for anything I didn’t want to do.
Ever since that trip, bagels have symbolised everything I love about life. Freedom, opportunity, choice and putting Isaac first.
I decided to put Isaac first today by having a bagel at Coffee Tea & Me at Redfern.
Coffee Tea and Me is a tiny cafe that you can completely miss even if you know exactly where it is. It just blends into its surroundings so well. It’s like trying to spot me in an engineering lecture hall when you only have a vague idea as to what I actually look like.
Known for its awesome bagels and coffee and located only five minutes away from where I work, the fact that it took me this long to finally visit is a crime in most states.
When I say it’s a tiny cafe, I mean it’s really tiny. Fortunately, there’s seating outside for people who don’t like having lunch at their desks.
Coffee Tea and Me has a range of bagel & coffee deals in place that range from 6.90-8.90 which offer you maximum bang for your buck like *CENSORED*
I decided to start it off with a hot chocolate because I’m a food blogging fraud that doesn’t like hot coffee.
This hot chocolate was fantastic. It was very rich and creamy. You know how some cafes simply blend chocolate syrup with hot milk and throw the cup at you and laugh as the burns start to appear on your body? Well, Coffee Tea and Me are not advocates of causing pain and instead are in the market of serving great hot chocolate that maintains its smooth texture and great flavour throughout every sip.
Bring on the carbs!
Let me talk about all the dynamics in play real quick. Anyone that has ever made a toastie know that cheese and tomato are best friends (with pineapple being the buddy that only shows up occasionally but always makes it a party when he does). Those two bad boys in between a toasted sesame seed bagel is already enough to get anyone’s taste buds going but then you throw in some avocado AND some spicy salami?
Ingenious. I haven’t seen a combination this good since Emily Ratajkowski’s boobs jiggled in unison in Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’ video.
Here’s the bagel my buddy opted for:
If you’re still not convinced about how good the bagels at Coffee Tea and Me are , my buddy is lactose intolerant and still devoured the entire bagel without removing a sliver of cream cheese.
(Note: He was fine afterwards. No humans were harmed during the writing of this blog).

Here’s the TL;DR for everyone who celebrates Festivus:
– Do you guys like the new theme? Let me know if you do or if it’s an eyesore like my third grade school photo that will end my modelling career if it ever sees the light of day.
– Grab a coffee and bagel from Coffee Tea and me with a ten dollar bill and use the change to buy some Tic Tacs as well. You’re welcome.

I love the new theme, looks very elegant. And I always go for hot chocolate instead of coffee too, so high five!
Hi 5!
And thanks!
love the new look! im lactose intolerant too but id still try that salmon bagel and deal with the pain later 😛
Confirmed: You’re the toughest food blogger I know.
not liking thr theme as much as the old one, or maybe because it looks strange on mobile?
Mmmm the header text doesn’t look as crisp on mobile. I’ll have to think about tinkering with that; thanks for the feedback!
I pass by that place often… it used to be a tiny, one person barber shop and it was small even for that purpose. Just looking at it makes me feel claustrophobic!
