Ms Murray, CBD

As I grow older, more and more of my friends are getting hitched.

Every day, I see more announcements and photos from a romantic weekend gone by. Nights of drunken escapades, regrettable hook-ups and waking up next to strangers have been replaced with discussions about diamond sizes, honeymoon spots and waking up next to the same person for the rest of your life.

For me, marriage is something that has always seemed a few years away. It’s been like that for ages even though my sister got married young and always encourages people to not waste time if you think you’ve found the one. I’m not fully on board yet.

I just can’t imagine myself bending down on one knee, looking into the eyes of someone and asking them:

“Hey, will you Murray me?”

Speaking of, I visited Ms Murray over the weekend.

An offshoot of John Montagu in Woolloomooloo, the owners of the business decided that the time was ripe for expansion which resulted in Ms Murray in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. Bringing you a combination of new offerings and a couple of mainstays from the original Montagu menu; Ms Murray is a cafe you should not miss out on.

Let’s take a look at what she’s working with:

ms murray house yogurt
House Yogurt: Honeyed Greek yogurt, coconut and chia pudding, toasted oats and iced fruits

The house yogurt looked gorgeous and tasted delicious; it’s the food equivalent of my future baby mama.

It was actually my favourite breakfast dish as the mixture of textures, temperatures (what?) and flavours provided a complex spoonful every time. I should elaborate on the mixed temperatures thing; the fruits embedded in the yogurt are chilled and reminded me of sucking on frozen oranges after exercising in primary school (jokes, I didn’t exercise much in primary school).

The crunchy oats, the jelly nature of the pudding and sour kick of the yogurt just blended together beautifully.

Let’s hope my future baby mama and I blend just as well.

Smoked Wagyu Benedict with eggless horseradish, hollandaise, sauteed kale, a poached egg and sesame bread

Wag-yu doing reading my blog by the way? You really should be reading that novel you’ve been putting off.

Please don’t leave me.

Anywho, this is an extremely hearty and filling dish. The sesame bread itself is big enough to be used as a pillow for someone with a tiny head. The amount of kale made me greener than Shrek. The amount of smoked wagyu beef led me to believe that Ms Murray had a herd of cattle in the back just ready to be served on up.

I may have exaggerated slightly.

ms murray salmon rilette
Salmon Rilette with pea pannacotta, cream cheese, coddled egg and rye toast

Roe, roe, roe your boat

Gently down the stream

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily

Make sure to enjoy the cream…cheese.

Sorry, I felt like remixing a nursery rhyme. The salmon rillette was easily one of the most unique ways I’ve ever enjoyed salmon. The salmon was chopped up and served similar to pate and placed on top of a pool of pea pannacotta. The pannacotta is super creamy and I loved how the texture just went well with everything else on the plate.

ms murray beef cheeks sandwich
John Montagu Beef Cheeks with 12 hour beef cheeks, aged cheddar, rocket, Spanish onions and house glaze

I’ve been waiting a long time to get cheeky with this beef cheeks sandwich.

The lovely annachaannn described eating the beef cheeks sandwich like eating the most premium cheeseburger you could possibly imagine. I thought it was more like eating a pie minus the crust with some rocket and delicious cheddar cheese. The beef is incredibly tender, rich and definitely worth cheek-ing out in the future.

Here’s the TL;DR for everyone wondering how I was going to incorporate a joke about the Murray River into this post:

  • Yo-gurta check this new cafe out!
  • Brought to you by the same talent behind John Montagu, here’s a non-disappointing sequel more in line with the Dark Knight than
