Bush Entrance Redfern

Bush, Redfern

I’m back.

And I went Bush walking in Redfern to celebrate.

Courtyard of Bush in Redfern
Oh man, the outside world is pretty great

Bush in Redfern is an ode to our beautiful country Australia’s indistinct cuisine. Any country that can flex about our ability to turn Vegemite into an edible, hot meat pies, exceptional Thai food and world-class steak all at the same time is the place for me.

Bush tips their hat to a few of these threads with a melting pot menu that rotates depending on what the chefs want to do and fresh produce they can get their hands on.

Let’s see what I got my hands on.

Chicken liver pate at Bush Redfern
Organic chicken liver pate with roasted chilli, pickled onion and sourdough

Looks like there’s going to be a pate in my mouth and all of you are invited to hear my recount.

Incredible start to one of my first major meals back in the outside world, there is no funk that you can sometimes get in lower quality pate that has the ability to linger like a rogue bean underneath your couch from that time you spilled a bag of beans trying to fill up a beanbag.

The crunch provided by the pickled onion and heavily buttered sourdough come together as well as all of the Avengers in Endgame. And just like Endgame, you’ll keep coming back and wanting to relive the very first time you experienced it.

Greens at Bush Redfern
Greens (Lettuce Cucumber Capers)

Full disclosure: ordering the greens weren’t my idea.

After eating them? Kinda wish I could claim they were my idea.

On first glance, it’s an assortment of vegetables with some capers on top. Not overly impressive. But just like my Tinder profile, you realise that giving it a shot unlocks a world of pleasures and unexpected flavour (by the way, I am 100% not on Tinder).

Crinkle Cut Chips at Bush Redfern
Crinkle Cut Chips

I am a child. Never forget that, dear readers (all seven of you).

The simple pleasure of crunchy, deep fried chips with a side of ketchup will always get my seal of approval.

Just get them, they’re the perfect side for the MVP of the dinner (which is coming up next).

Double Cheeseburger at Bush Redfern
Double Cheeseburger

My top 5 cravings during the peak of COVID-19 when everyone was locked down at home:

  • A really good burger
  • A delicious double patty burger
  • A saucy, you can’t put this down after you’ve picked it up, burger
  • A mix of cheese, pickles and beef that dissolves in your mouth after you sink your teeth in
  • An acai bowl. But subtracting the acai bowl and putting a double cheeseburger in its place.

This burger was the main reason I went to Bush and the main reason I’ll be returning again (and again).

Here’s the TL;DR for everyone who thought I had retired without announcing it kinda like Tim Duncan in his last NBA season:

  • Get the Cheeseburger every time you go to Bush.
