Moo Gourmet Burgers, Newtown

I rolled into Newtown last week hoping to have a really good burger. The place I went to had as many if not more bandwagon fans than the South Sydney Rabbitohs this season. Unfortunately for me, the burger I had was extremely disappointing and I chose not to write about it.

That burger place does not represent Newtown. I LOVE Newtown, it’s where I first tried Indian cuisine (love it), it’s where my favourite Thai restaurant is located (Thai Pothong what up!) and also home to one of the outlets I write for. I refused to be discouraged and decided to run it back today.

Thank you Moo Gourmet Burgers for restoring my love for Newtown.

First of all, I have to mention this before I forget. The girl who took my order reminded me of Alice Eve’s best friend in She’s out Of My League. I don’t remember the actress’s name but she also played Jesse’s raven haired girlfriend on Breaking Bad.

I arrived really early because my blogging amigos warned me that it got busy during lunch time. I had been here before but it was a long time ago and I don’t even remember what I ordered. I would not make that same mistake this time. I decided to opt for a Chorizo burger with rocket and a Mooteser milkshake.

I love the cow theme that’s present in all Moo restaurants, its udderly fantastic.

I’ve been deprived of sugar ever since I started my ‘diet’. I know it seems like a slip up on a daily basis but I assure you its closer to slipping up every two days. I find it a lot easier to veer away from sweet stuff but did anyone expect me to fend off the advances of a milkshake made with Maltesers?

Moo is famous for their milkshakes and the Mooteser special is one of the best milkshakes I’ve ever had. You can taste the Maltesers fused with ice cream and it does wonders for people wanting to bulk up. I wouldn’t have one everyday but…who am I kidding, I would if I could.

Chorizo and beef finally brought together. This was the burger equivalent to the series finale of Friends when Rachel and Ross finally got together. That relationship got hard to consume after a while but this burger went down extremely easily.

I feel that rocket is very under utilised in the world of burgers. Everyone loves lettuce but I love the extra kick that rocket adds to all salads. It went really well with the slightly sour taste of the tomato relish and the added flavours enhanced the power of the chorizo/beef patty. The burger was absolutely huge, so large that I thought I had the entire burger in my frame and didn’t realise I had cropped off the top of the bun until I had gotten home.

This is one of those burgers that you need to squash down slightly and eat with your hands. Moo provides a knife and fork which I guess you can use to stir your milkshake.

I really loved the way this burger was constructed. The buns were soft and didn’t get soggy and evolve into bread mush. The patty was bursting with flavour and the aforementioned rocket provided an additional layer of awesome.

Here’s the TL; DR for people who only wanted to look at photos

– My dietary discipline waxes and wanes.

– Mooteser milkshake makes you want to spend a solid three hours on the treadmill thinking about a Mooteser milkshake.

– Chorizo and beef together is like portable music, the Fast & Furious franchise and Anna Kendrick. So good.
