Lord Gladstone Hotel, Chippendale

Random iFat trivia time:

I don’t like swimming very much. I can swim, I’m no Michael Phelps but I’m not a flailing mass of limbs either when you throw me in a body of water. It goes back to an incident I had as a kid in which I nearly drowned because the girl who was looking after me decided to leave me by the pool to purchase bubble gum. In fairness, choosing bubble gum over chubby old me is a pretty sound decision.

Before you know it, I fell in and plummeted to the bottom like a rock.

Or a heavy stone.

Speaking of stones, I have a lot to tell you about the awesome burgers at the Lord GladSTONE hotel. lord gladstone hotel chippendale

One of my favourite lunch spots, the Lord Gladstone Hotel is one of Sydney’s oldest watering holes with a fresh coat of paint on it. It’s like how I transformed from one of a million teen angst bloggers into one of Sydney’s finest food bloggers (According to Zomato I am firmly entrenched in the top 470).

Even though there’s a multitude of beers on taps and awesome snacks on offer, I only come for one thing. Burgers.

Wait, I haven’t gotten to the best part yet; swing by the Lord Gladstone for lunch/dinner on Mondays & Tuesdays and you’ll get to make these burgers’ acquaintance for a mere ten dollars.

Let me introduce you to my edible friends, cheese, chicken and bushwick of the burger family:

I’ve had a lot of burgers in my life, my wasitline can vouch for that. The first time I realised I was in love with burgers was when I sunk my teeth into one of the most delicious chicken burgers I’ve ever eaten (the review will see the light of day soon). Since that point, I’ve always had a soft spot for poultry burgers as long as they weren’t of a paltry quality. Listen, you don’t have to worry about that at all when it comes to Lord Gladstone.

With a crunchy fillet of tender chicken meat, a generous dollop of sriracha mayo and slaw; each bite is a party with your taste buds. I’m a big fan of the buns employed at the Gladstone as they’re incredibly sturdy and the softness provides a nice contrast to all of the other condiments in play.

Oh and cheese! A lot of places don’t miss chicken and cheese and I don’t know why they don’t for the life of me. Why would you deprive da Vinci of a paintbrush?

Speaking of cheese:

Random shower thought: Imagine if I had a burger every time a photographer said say cheese? I’d have died from cholesterol clogging 6 years ago. However, dying because my arteries were overwhelmed from having too many of these delicious burgers would be a pretty good way of going out.

It’s a classic cheeseburger minus those annoying vegetables that my friends, family and doctor keep telling me to eat.

However, apparently doctors know a thing or two about nutrition which brings me to my next burger:

Imagine the cheeseburger with some crunchy lettuce and tomato and boom: you get the bushwick. Your preference really boils down to whether or not you like having some non-pickled greens in your burger, I generally do which is why I prefer the Bushwick over the cheese.

Lets stop beating around the bush and bring this review to an end real wick.

Here’s the TL;DR for everyone who would be glad to stone me:

– All of Lord Gladstone’s burgers come with fries at no extra charge. F*ck yeah.

– You have an a-bun-dance of good options here, the only wrong decision you can make is choosing not to visit the Lord Gladstone Hotel.
