Happy Ending, Concord

God, I love a good fairytale.

I have been waiting for this day since the beginning of my passionate obsession with Mister Gee Burger Truck.

And now I’ve finally got my Happy Ending in the form of the aptly named Happy Ending.

The Gee-niuses behind Sydney’s favourite burger truck have finally set up a brick and mortar store that won’t require you to stand around in a car wash waiting for the truck to pull up and start grilling. Featuring a brand new menu of burgers as well as fries, drinks, sides and special burgers of the week, this is everything I have ever wanted.

Let’s get right into it.

happy ending no mustard please
No Mustard Please: dry aged beef patty, American cheese, caramelised onion and sauce number 2

Balance is important.

That’s the key takeaway I’ve gotten from rewatching Star Wars over the years and that takeaway can be applied to takeaways as well. This is something that the No Mustard Please is the perfect example of, the salty beef and American cheese is kept in check with the subtle sweetness of the bun and the overtly sweet nature of the caramelised onions.

Every bite is a little bit of this, a little bit of that and a lot of the mysteriously named sauce number 2.

That’s funny because I definitely felt like getting a second No Mustard Please to go with my first one.

happy ending deep fried friends
Deep Fried Friends: deep fried chicken thigh fillet, American cheese, pickles, mayo and kaya butter

I wish all of my friends were deep fried and smothered in mayo, alas I have to settle for loving human beans that are completely condiment free.

The burger arrives and you’re greeted with the thickest of chicken patties. You know the chicken that gave its life to be in this burger was a fan of nice yoga pants and dozens of squats at the gym. The richness of the kaya butter, mayonaise and deep fried nature of the chicken makes you feel like you’re sinking into an edible high-interest bank account.

Definitely something I’ll always have a high interest in.

Here’s the TL;DR for everyone who expected me to make more Avril Lavgine references:

  • There’ll always be something new to try at Happy Ending, it’s like those choose your own adventure books that Goosebumps and Animorphs occasionally did.
  • I’m going to start rumors about having heard that the truffle mayo made famous by the burger truck will eventually make its way on to the Happy Ending menu. Not that the current menu isn’t great but still…
  • All of those other burgers are pretending, you’re better off going to Happy Ending.
