For every generation, there are things that happen which make you realise that you’re not as young as you think you are anymore.

Everything seems more expensive, schoolkids start looking like adults, the days all seem to blur together and your body just isn’t as spry as it used to be. Also, all pop music starts sounding the same and it’s especially weird when a “new” song samples a song that isn’t even that old.

Yes, I had that feeling as soon as I heard that “suga suga how’d you get so fly” song. The original was by a guy who thought it was a good idea to call himself Baby Bash and it really didn’t come out that long ago.

In all fairness, the new version is quite catchy as well

Seriously, how did Petal Met Sugar in Woolloomooloo get so fly?

Located in Woolloomooloo, Petal Met Sugar is a cafe featuring beautiful desserts and fresh flowers. Basically, it’s the ultimate place to take a girl on Valentine’s Day if you refuse to pay the 4000% mark-up that online rose depositories add on February 14th.

As much as I love all things botanic, I’m more of an edible fanatic.

So let’s take a look at all the desserts I sank my teeth into.

Psyche, had to start off with something savoury before I embarked on my dessert journey.

Toasted, buttery and flaking away with every bite; Petal Met Sugar’s croissant is one of the finest I’ve ever had the honour of sinking my teeth into. The melted cheese and tasty ham just top it off like a blazer on top of a killer shirt and tie combo.

Can’t wait to croiss paths with this pastry one more time.

The only thing I’ve had even remotely similar to this is Chinese tong sui (translation: sugar water) that I usually get after a big family dinner. Main difference between that and this is that I don’t have family members whispering to each other that I wasted my potential and never became a doctor.

Anywho, I loved all the floaties utilised in the soup, how can you say no to melon, chestnut, pandan jelly and a couple of edible petals to boot?

I left my speedo at home but I was still tempted to take a dip in this pond.

Why hello there, sailor.

I loved this dessert more than I love not having to pay for dipping sauce. The crunch of the rice puffs, the richness of the dulce de leche and the smooth texture of the vanilla Chantilly combined to form the ultimate bite of dessert.

And then you get to wash it down with a malt-laden honeycomb shake that’s pretty mush making out with your tastebuds?

Let’s just say I had a very gay time with Petal Met Sugar’s take on a Gaytime.

All of Petal Met Sugar’s desserts are beautiful and it’s very possible they taste even better than they look. It’s amazing, it’s like discovering pizza actually helps you lose weight. The guava earl grey with crème fraiche is the crème da la crème of their current offerings and my favourite from the day.

Sweet, nuanced yet still quite light; this dessert just captures your attention. It has a unique guava-ty that doesn’t let your mind wander once you’re in its presence.

I just wanted to de-flower this dessert so bad.

Every petal looked delicious and every bit of soil scrumptious. Such a unique dessert that you almost feel guilty breaking up. I was big fan of the jasmine tea’s presence throughout every spoonful of soil, it’s rare that you describe anything with chocolate as refreshing but there you go.

This is the best tasting dirt since the time I enjoyed an all you can eat dirt buffet in kindergarten.

Here’s the TL;DR for everyone who thinks my posts are getting a bit repetaltive, repetaltive.

• Don’t sleep on the croissant.
• Put your petal to the metal and get your hands on all the dessert on offer.
• This has to be the only cafe in Sydney who’s as good with flour as they are with flowers.
