Throughout my life, there have been a number of jobs and careers that I wanted.

When I was 5, I wanted to be a banker. Closest I came to that was opening a bank account.

When I was 7, I wanted to be an archaeologist. Closest I came to that was watching Jurassic Park.

When I was 17, I wanted to be a journalist. Closest I ever came to that was delivering the news as a paperboy.

Speaking of, have you heard there’s an awesome cafe in Concord called Paperboy?

(Disclaimer: I was invited to sample Paperboy’s menu however opinions remain my own).

Paperboy is the sister cafe to Left of Field in Rhodes and debates still burn hot in terms of who the hotter sister is. With completelty different menus, I guess it really does boil down to whether you prefer blondes or brunettes.

Or in this case, hotcakes versus waffles.

Let’s do a bit of a deep dive.

I usually save the best dish until last but hey life is never guaranteed so tackle that dessert before life desserts you.

One normally associates true innovation with tech companies like Amazon, Google or iFat but here comes Paperboy completely changing the game by fusing two iconic desserts and forming a new classic (shout outs to Iggy Azalea’s album).

The rich flavours of coconut, chocolate and berries that lamingtons bring to the table fused with the crunch of a breakfast waffle; what a time to be alive.

To be honest, I didn’t know what a ploughman was until googling it but Paperboy has convinced me that ploughmen are lunch savants.

I thought of the platter as a compact breakfast buffet served at the table. A little bit of premium ham, little bit of salami and some killer cheese? Oh let’s throw in some pickles and eggs too. Don’t sleep on the chutney either. A little bit of whatever you want with rye as a base?

I need to change careers if this is how ploughmen are eating consistently.

In my opinion, you’re not a great cafe unless your baked eggs are eggscellent. Thankfully, Paperboy passed that test with flying colours with their take on my favourite breakfast dish.

The richness of the tomatoes and the spicy kick is what baked this dish into my memory for the rest of my days. Every spoonful of herbs, spices and delicious lamb sausage was like a gift from the culinary gods and all I had to sacrifice was my waistline (in fairness, I’ve been sacrificing it since birth).

I’ve done my best to eggs-plain how good this dish is, but you’re going to have to try it for yourself.

Here’s the TL;DR for everyone who thought Paperboy was a superhero with powers involving paper mache:

• I can’t believe you’ve made it this far down the page because I probably would’ve jumped in my car after seeing the photo of lamington waffles and making my way to Concord.
• A lot of things sound good on paper, but Paperboy makes it an actuality.
